The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness. (Proverbs 15:14)

What we talk about reveals much about our character, much about our social life, our knowledge of important and maybe relevant issues or events of the day. It reflects what really matters or is significant to us. What we watch, read, hear, and absorb into our thoughts, sooner or later will flow from the knowledge we have on that particular subject. Little knowledge will get one in trouble, especially if they think they know more than they really do. I’ve met people like that, and I’m sure you have too.
In this verse we read that fools feed on foolishness, they have no knowledge of what really matters in life. They eat the bread of stupidity and are never satisfied. The pains of hunger go from dissatisfaction to another bad choice in reality. They deceive themselves with empty pots of perception. They are always hungry, looking for any substance to fill that longing, but always end up empty.
A person who is wise is understanding, and continues to seek more knowledge. But this knowledge is not in the foolish things of life, they realize what is important: Knowing/fearing God (v 33), seeking His ways and following after righteousness (v 9, 21), using knowledge aright (v 2), delighting in the things of the Lord, dispersing knowledge to others (v 7), prayer (v 8, 29), being content (v 16, 27), pondering or weighing the situation or question before replying i.e. the heart of the righteous studieth to answer (v 28), being humble (v 25 – 32), and being able to take correction or reproof (v 5, 10, 12, 31,32). Someone who can dish it out to others, but are not able to reciprocate need a lesson on criticism and humility.
The Holy Spirit reveals insight into God’s word, and helps us to understand the hidden treasures therein. (John 14:26; John 16:13; 1 Corinthians 2:6-16)  If someone says they don’t understand the Bible, it’s because it is spiritually discerned and only God’s children can comprehend it. (1 Corinthians 2:14) That’s one lesson on whether or not someone is really saved and really a Christian as they say. So, to get knowledge and wisdom, one has to first understand “Who” gives it?  But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. (1 Corinthians 1:24) We cannot have true wisdom, unless we have Christ. We cannot understand the Bible, unless we have Christ. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1) And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
The Word was God, who took on a human form. (John 1:1 and 14) All things were made by Him (John 1:3) Thus, true wisdom comes from above, it comes from the One who created heaven, earth, and all creation. (Proverbs 8:22-31; 1 Corinthians 1:30; Ephesians 1:17; Colossians 21-10; Exodus 28:3; 31:3, 6; 35:31; 36:1; 1 Kings 4:29)
